Twitter Canada workshop

I just had a planning session with Jennifer Hollett, News Director at Twitter Canada, to firm up details of the workshops she will do with all of you on Tuesday, May 22 and Thursday, May 24. Jennifer has been at Twitter for two years. Jennifer is responsible for developing and supporting news partnerships for Twitter, which has 3,000 employees in total and 46 in Canada. She works with journalists and newsrooms, as well as government and various organizations (including Elections Ontario, which is using Twitter to promote communication and debate during their upcoming election), to share best practices–including teaching how to use Go Live video, moments and threads, among other tools.

On Tuesday morning, she will deliver a workshop that is designed to build on the expertise of you “power users” and engage all of us “listeners,” who have Twitter accounts but don’t use them much except to follow others and like or Tweet occasionally.  On Tuesday afternoon, you will have an assignment that she will supervise through the use of a hashtag that you all come up with in the morning. We are thinking that we will pair up the power users among you and the listeners, so the more experienced students can help the others (including me) to do the assignment.

On Thursday morning, Jennifer will do a debrief and deliver another workshop–Twitter 2.0–that will take your knowledge and skills to the next level.

All of this should prepare you to rock your social media assignments at Congress, which starts on Saturday, May 26. Note: participation on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 is not required for INCA; but everyone will be working for Congress the following week May 27-June 1…as well as training with Jennifer Pimentel and filing to www.aptnnews.ca.
