I don’t know about you, but I’m getting excited.
With three weeks to go, it looks like we will have a full class with 25 students–the biggest class ever!
And the instructors are world class–they come from APTN, CBC, CTV, Global, Post Media, Eagle Feather News, MBC, Twitter Canada…. I always tell students on the first day that by the end of 7 weeks they will know 50 new people in the media industry. And they will be your colleagues, mentors, referees, employers, co-producers, fans and friends, for the rest of your lives.
I know some of you are a bit freaked out…I’m a bit freaked out lol. But you don’t need to worry. Everyone starts at the same place. In some weeks, you will be a beginner and in some weeks, you will be helping others. From wherever you start, you will learn and grow as much as you want to. At the beginning of all my classes, I tell students, “If you want to work, I’ll work just as hard. If you want to learn, I’ll teach you everything I know.” Only in the Summer Institute, it’s not just me working for you and teaching you–you will have 25-plus teachers, all of who are completely dedicated to helping you rock!
And if you ever feel overwhelmed, please don’t hesitate to alert me. I’ve talked a lot of students off the ledge over the years, and if I can’t make you feel better, I know lots of people who will listen, council, reassure, encourage, scold or inspire you–whatever you need to get back in the game.
